Central Air, Furnace, and Heat Pump Repair in Fort Worth, TX

Downtown Fort Worth during sunset.

Drive from the Near Southside to the edge of AllianceTexas and you’ll pass more than a hundred years of local architecture. Fairmount is full of bungalows and foursquares built in the early 1900s. Arlington Heights leans Craftsman and Tudor, Tanglewood dates to the 1950s, and the master-planned neighborhoods up north are still adding new streets. A system squeezed into a century-old attic doesn’t fail the same way as a builder-installed unit in a 2008 subdivision, and a good technician knows the difference.

Washburn Air handles AC repair across the city, plus furnace repair and heat pump repair for the cooler months. Summer breakdowns get most of the attention, but a heater that won’t fire on a January morning is just as urgent, and we treat it that way.

  • Locally based: We’re headquartered in Grapevine, right here in Tarrant County, and Fort Worth homeowners are some of the neighbors we serve.
  • Diagnostic-driven solutions: Testing comes first. We replace parts only when the readings show they’re the problem.
  • Fast dispatch: Same-day appointments are frequently available, so a breakdown doesn’t have to mean days without heat or air.
  • Transparent pricing: The price is on the table before a single tool comes out, and the decision stays yours.

Why Fort Worth Turns to Washburn Air for Air Conditioning Repair

Licensed Technicians With Six Decades of North Texas Experience

Washburn Air has been a North Texas name since 1960, and under owner Taylor Chesnut, it remains locally owned and operated. Every technician we send is TDLR-registered and EPA-certified, whether the job is AC repair on a stubborn condenser or an inspection of a furnace heat exchanger. Older homes in Fairmount and Ryan Place often hide ductwork in cramped attics and wall cavities. In north Fort Worth, many homes still run original equipment that’s now old enough for capacitors, blower motors, and drain lines to give out.

Many visits end with a straightforward fix: a compressor that wouldn’t engage, a slow refrigerant leak, a furnace ignitor that finally burned out, or ductwork that’s losing air into the attic. Some don’t. When an aging system reaches the point where fixing it no longer pays off, we’ll say so plainly and lay out cooling replacement and heating replacement options, plus financing to spread out the cost.

The Comfort Club: Maintenance Without the Hassle

Seasonal Tune-Ups and Member Savings in Fort Worth

Most breakdowns don’t come out of nowhere. A capacitor weakens over a season, or a drain line slowly clogs, and a tune-up is usually where those problems get caught.

The residential Comfort Club schedules that care for you at $240 per system per year: a cooling visit in spring and a heating visit in fall, with carbon monoxide and electrical safety testing included in the fall. Membership also brings repair savings, faster service, and a growing credit toward your next system.

Membership Highlights

  • Twice-a-Year Tune-Ups: Coil cleaning, drain line clearing, manufacturer-required maintenance, and safety checks, handled once in spring and again in fall.

  • 10% Off All Repairs: Every repair on an enrolled system costs members less.

  • Priority Scheduling: Members’ repair calls go to the front of the schedule, and a technician arrives within 24 hours.

  • $100 Annual Replacement Credit: Each year you’re a member, $100 goes into your replacement account, with no ceiling on the total.

Spring HVAC tune ups help keep units running all year round in Dallas Fort-Worth.

Fort Worth Frequently Asked Questions

Each sound points somewhere different. Grinding or squealing usually means worn motor bearings or a slipping belt. Buzzing at the outdoor unit tends to be electrical, often a weak capacitor or contactor, and banging or rattling suggests something inside has come loose.

A hiss near the refrigerant lines can signal a leak. Repeated clicking at startup often traces back to a relay or the ignition sequence. One sound is especially urgent: a loud boom when the furnace lights, which typically means delayed ignition from dirty burners.

New noises rarely fix themselves. Shutting the system down early gives you the best shot at a smaller repair bill.

Overheating is the usual culprit. A dirty condenser coil, a failing capacitor, or a refrigerant problem can push the unit past its safety limits, so it shuts down to protect itself. Thermostat problems and tripped breakers round out the list.

These shutdowns tend to happen on the hottest afternoons, when the system is already working at its limit. Rinsing debris off the coil and changing your filter may help for a while.

A breaker that trips repeatedly is a warning, not a nuisance, so leave it off and schedule a diagnosis. For more detail, see our post on why outdoor AC units shut off.

Age catches up faster than most people expect. A home built in 2010 that still has its original equipment is running a system that’s about 16 years old, well into the range where capacitors, blower motors, and drain lines commonly fail.

Location plays a part, too. Attic installations bake through every North Texas summer, and skipped maintenance lets dirt build up on coils and inside drain lines.

The good news is that many of these failures are simple fixes. A diagnostic visit will show whether you’re looking at a single part or a system that’s close to retirement.

Start with a quick checklist: thermostat batteries and settings, the furnace’s power switch, the breaker, the air filter, and the front panel door, which has to be fully closed for many furnaces to run.

When all of that looks fine, the trouble is usually inside the unit. Failed ignitors and dirty flame sensors are common, and high-efficiency furnaces shut themselves off if their condensate line clogs. A closed gas valve or a faulty control board can also stop the startup sequence.

Notice a rotten-egg odor? Get everyone out, then call the gas company or 911 from outside. For everything else, our heating repair team can get things running again.

A load calculation answers that better than square footage ever could. It weighs insulation, window area, sun exposure, ceiling height, and duct design to measure how much heating and cooling the house really needs.

Getting it wrong in either direction hurts comfort. Oversized equipment cycles on and off too quickly to pull humidity out of the air. Undersized equipment runs nonstop and still falls behind during heat waves and hard freezes. Either one wears out early.

Short cycles and constant running can both point to a sizing problem, and we take that into account when we talk through furnace replacement or a new air conditioner.

Look for warm air from the vents, frost or ice on the refrigerant lines, a faint hissing sound, and a system that runs longer than it used to. Oily spots around fittings and a jump in your electric bill are other clues.

Unlike gasoline, refrigerant isn’t consumed as the system runs. Low levels always mean a leak, and topping it off without a repair is only a temporary fix. Running short on refrigerant also puts the compressor at risk of overheating.

We find the source, repair it, and recharge the system to the manufacturer’s specification. Our article on refrigerant leaks covers the most common causes.
